Alienware M17x Review
Alienware have always targetted consumers other than the mainstream with their laptop, just as their name may suggest. They create laptops built for people wanting to make the most of them, and the new M17x laptop is no exception. This unit is designed from the inside out, making the most of the current technology, and placing it all together into one high end laptop designed to play all of the current PC games.
Alienware M17x Specs
The Alien ware M17x has a number of customizable options from the start, but even the basic model has an impressive array of components. To start with, being a gaming PC, one of the most important details is the graphics card. Options start at a Geforce GTX260M 1GB card, with the option of upgrading to a dual SLI GTX280M 2GB set of cards.
And the processor doesn't disappoint either. Starting with the Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, various upgrades can take you right up to an Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX9300, an impressive feat in a laptop that sizes in at under 16 inches wide, 13 inches deep, and 2.11 inches tall.
Amost every other specification in this laptop can be tailor made to fit your needs, down to options like solid state hard drives, up to 8GB RAM, and a Blu-Ray Reader.
The keyboard comes backlit as standard, and with Alienwares software included in the box, even the colour of the keyboards backlight can be configured to your preference.
Alienware M17x Design
Alienware laptops have always had a distinctive look, and the M17x is no exception. The alienware logo sits proudly on the lid, lighting up whenever the machine is on. When opened up the large 17inch screen reveals itself, with it's edge-to-edge glass being more akin to an Apple laptop model than current PC laptops.
To house such components the body was always going to be on the bulky side, but alienware have created an aluminium body that looks as menacing as the power that it contains, and as with all of the internal specs, the colour of the body itself is a choice down to the buyer.
Final Thoughts
The M17x laptop is an engineering feat from Alienware. The price may be high, but that price can give you performance that even few desktop computers can match, all with the option of closing the lid and keeping it with you. There are many people that believe games are better played on PC's rather than consoles, and this laptop is cementing the option for gamers to be able to do that.
